Beginning with dreams, tools for asking yourself.

AskWithin builds tools for reflecting on dreams and the questions they leave. Our first product, D. Dream Card, turns a dream you write down into four cards to think with.

Cards from a synthetic test dream. The card text is translated into English for this page; D. writes cards in Korean today.

One dream, four cards

A dream is not an answer. It is a story from within.

Card 1, the core of the dream, English translation preview: “The Blank Book, Not Handed Over”, above a watercolor of a woman reading at a library table while a librarian points to the window.Card 2, symbols in the dream, English translation preview: three small paintings of a woman holding a blue book, blank pages lifting in the wind, and a yellow umbrella, each with a short reading.Card 3, the inner message, English translation preview: the reading and why it reads this way, above a watercolor of a woman resting on a stone bench while someone with an umbrella waits by a doorway.Card 4, today’s question, English translation preview: two questions and the line the dream left, above a watercolor of a woman placing a blue book back on a library shelf.Korean original of card 1, as D. made it.Korean original of card 2, as D. made it.Korean original of card 3, as D. made it.Korean original of card 4, as D. made it.

1 The core of the dream

The blank book, not handed over.

What happened at the center of the dream, in a sentence and a few keywords.

Read the card text

The Blank Book, Not Handed Over

In a quiet library I was looking at blank pages, and even when the librarian pointed to the window, I did not hand over the book. It reads like a scene of keeping my own pace, without hurrying.

Keywords: blank pages, not handing over, waiting, back in place

2 Symbols in the dream

What memories does a blue-covered book hold for you?

What stood out, read inside this dream and left open to more than one meaning.

Read the card text

The blue-covered book. Opened, held, and never handed over. It may be close to a wish to keep something of your own.

The blank pages. Relief came the moment they stirred in the wind. They could be possibilities not yet filled, or room left open on purpose.

The yellow umbrella. Held by the person who waited at the door. It sits beside the idea of someone who stays near without hurrying you.

What memories does a blue-covered book hold for you?

3 The inner message

Keeping something without hurrying, then returning it to its place.

What the symbols might be pointing to, and the scenes that reading rests on.

Read the card text

Keeping something without hurrying, then returning it to its place, seems to be this dream’s quiet strength.

Why it reads this way: the librarian pointed, yet the book was not handed over, and at the end it went back on the shelf where it started.

That is as far as my part goes. From here, your own memory is the judge.

4 Today’s open question

Which scene from the dream stays with you longest?

Questions to carry through the day. Whether to answer them is up to you.

Read the card text

You looked at the blank pages of a blue book in a library.

Which scene from the dream stays with you longest?

At the end of the dream, the book went back on the shelf where it had been.

When you recall that scene, where in your body do you feel it first?

The line the dream left: the blank pages are still open, and the book waits in its place.

Scene summary of the synthetic example, based on the cards.

In a quiet library I opened a book with a blue cover and looked at its blank pages. The librarian pointed toward the window, but I kept the book. Someone with a yellow umbrella waited at the door. I sat outside for a while, then put the book back on the shelf where it had been.

How it’s built with Claude

D. uses the Claude API to read dreams and write the card text. We develop it with Claude Code and use a separate model to review the results against written criteria.

We compared recent engine candidates on 21 open synthetic test dreams and 20 held-out cases. We use the review results and missed errors to decide whether to ship a change.

Semantic review counts refer to dream cases assessed by an independent model. Other outcomes exist, so passed and missed-error counts do not add up to the total. Automated test counts are a separate measure. All test dreams are synthetic.

From the lab notes as of 2026-10-09

  1. Card writer moved from Claude Sonnet 5.5 to Claude Haiku 5.5 with adaptive thinking

Semantic review of 20 held-out synthetic dream cases.

    Haiku 5.5 12 passed, 1 missed
    Sonnet 5.5 9 passed, 4 missed
  2. Candidate 29: the writer chooses symbols when the analysis finds none, with tighter rules on how scenes are staged

Semantic review of 32 cases using the same dream texts.

    Candidate 29 12 passed, 5 missed
Production at the time 20 passed, 3 missed
  3. Candidate 30: rewrite only the sentence a reviewer flags, once

All 24 automated tests passed. Semantic review of 41 synthetic dream cases.

    Candidate 30 19 passed, 14 missed
Production at the time 25 passed, 4 missed
